Purpose Before Program
I’ve always been interested in patterns.
Not just in hairdressing.
In people.
In the way businesses work.
In the things that separate one salon from another.
That curiosity has stayed with me.
Early in my career, I remember attending workshops that felt useful at the time.
Yet a few weeks later, I’d often find myself wondering what had stayed with people.
Over time, I began to notice a pattern.
The education people remembered usually had one thing in common.
There was a clear reason behind it.
Not simply a new product to learn about.
Not because the calendar said it was time.
But because the business was trying to achieve something.
The more I observed, the more I realised.
Most salon owners want the same thing.
A busy salon.
A capable team.
Clients who keep coming back.
The destination is often the same.
The pathway rarely is.
That’s where my thinking about education began to change.
It started with understanding the business.
The people within it.
What’s already working.
And where there might be an opportunity to do something better.
Purpose before program.
